is there a reason that FNB info is being kept real secretive all the time? Seems really elitist to me..

I don't know, but it's kind of stupid. I suppose it's just not to flood the forum. =

is there a reason that FNB info is being kept real secretive all the time? Seems really elitist to me.. How is it? We have a blog and its updated everytime we have an action. We have a mailing list and if you want to get involved in Food Not Bombs just ask to be added to the list and you can get involved. We have new people joining every week by just asking to be on the mailing list. If it ever seems secretive its probably down to being badly organised. When I said PM me to get involved I just said it like that so it doesn't "flood" the forum as ProperTea said. So the thread can be used more for announcing actions and stuff.

i get your point but still one line to say "meet at _____ to help with cooking at ___am/pm" isnt really flooding is it? i dunno.

I didn't have that information at the time. It all gets worked out through the emails and varies from action to action. And there's more to "getting involved" than just cooking.

well sure, theres collecting food, which, as far as i know (correct me if im wrong) is more individuals collecting a bringing what they can? and then serving. but it folllows that if you cook then proceed to the serving venue its easy enough to serve. so to me "cooking" is the main part of being "involved". and i wouldnt say your involved if you just rock up and eat. which is the only info you gave out. so.....
i know FNB have a blog with all the info. but if that is the only source you want people to get info from then why even post ANY info here.
im only saying all this because i think its not an effort at all to post more info here, i think you SHOULD be if you want more people to be involved, and if you dont know, then them PM'ing you isnt going to help anyway.
but i guess you shouldnt say much more or we'll be flooding.... this shouldnt be a big deal. its not hard and i see no reason not to post it. if you dont know. say you dont know and update when you do!! COOL!!

In regards to collecting food, that gets organised in the emails too. There is some organisation to collect food in groups. For example on Friday night a group of us will be driving around dumpstering and for previous actions, there have been other groups meeting and collecting together. So that is also a main part of organising.
There is also cleaning up afterwards and picking up and returning equipment from the nunnery or wherever.
Food Not Bombs doesn't organise things then tell everyone who wants to be involved what to do. We organise all together. To be involved in Food Not Bombs it is suggested that you join the mailing list that way you can be part of organising of the different roles that are included in carrying out an action.
Why isn't PMing me going to help anyway?
If someone really wants to get involved why can't they be proactive in seeking information? As I said the email is on the blog. If you want to know, just email it. Some of us don't always have the time to go around to a bunch of websites and write everything out, and the information might just change anyway.

like i already said, if you dont know the info (like you claimed) pmi'ing you wouldnt have helped because you wouldnt have had the info to give them.
if you're already posting info about where FNB is serving, then it hardly takes anymore time or effort to post about where they can come to help prepare in whatever way.
i assume that if you are posting publicly about serving then you are trying to get people to come down/get involved? if that is the case wouldnt it also be cool once you have the info available to you, to also let people know how they can help out with cooking. then if they liked that maybe they would be keen to get involved and sign up the email list or whatever.
this is ridiculous. if you're already posting and you have the info available, i can only see positive results from posting info for cooking (or whatever else), yeah?
