I was thinking about this and wanted a concensus on the idea.
I'm assuming, that most of us are aware of the push for action against sexual assault and the way it's dealt with?
Well anywayz, there was a zine made by people from Melbourne(i think, might have just been people here who i don't know) about sexual assault that got circulated here at this massive gig, i don't have one i forgot to collect the zines, but since there's been the NT issues, aswell as a campaign for community action against sexual assault. Now we've go the Australian Youth Against Sexual Assault, and in Adelaide there's been 3 meetings and this friday is a day of direct action. The friday after is when the dude "running" AYASA is running a picnic/meeting.
Not just that though, for example, i get yelled at from cars alot, and when i'm in the city alone at night i'm always cautious, and it'd be good to know what to do when angry drunks attack me, when i can't run for it.
My point being.. i want to help out with some of the actions, but i've been thinking of a less-profound information campaign.
So just now i thought of a self-defense publication.
Just to cover things like psychology, basic and advanced moves on how to defend yourself from people who would seek to harm you, aswell as maybe ways to help other people, like how to break up punch fights, or ways to calm people down and such.
Maybe even if enough support was found, workshops could be run, that's something that pretty well never ever ever happens in Adelaide, more a Sydney thing hey?
So yeah, i'll talk to some Adelaideans about it and post here what they reckon aswell.
And any contribution would be much loved, anyone who's done martial arts or something, person experience etc.
so yea, vote, discuss, and suggest away!
much love, gabs.
